When hiring staff and growing a team, organisation is important from the offset. Everyone within the company should fully understand the role they play within the business.
As your business grows, it should be a priority to ensure that your employees understand their roles and the business structure itself. Every business, from a sole trader to the largest company, is organised in a particular way and an organisational chart defines how information flows between different levels of management.
Whether you have an organisational chart in place or not, we encourage our clients to review the structure on a regular basis, ensuring each member of the team is aware of the internal structure, the roles and responsibilities and any changes etc.
Depending on the size of your business, a simple organisational method is to set up departments that cover the four main areas of business:
- Human resources
It is helpful to produce a physical copy of the organisational structure by completing – and sharing within the team – an organisational chart. You’ll need to think about and include (where relevant):
- The Hierarchy
- Line Managers
- Lines of Communication
- Chain of Command
To get started, determine the type of organisation you own. Is it a:
